US politician who was critical of Israeli influence. Began a grassroots campaign in July 2014 to, among other things, try to abolish the Federal Reserve. Died in September 2014.  Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio's 17th district In office January 3, 1985 - July 24, 2002

James Anthony Traficant Jr. was an American politician who was one of the few members of Congress to oppose Israel and support Palestinian rights. Having the reputation as a maverick, Traficant ran a program described as "blue-collar nationalism". Some talking points of Trump's MAGA movement had been voiced by him before.

"He gave voice to the frustrations and anxieties of the common man. The public felt he was one of them and because of that connection, they supported him in good times and in bad. He was a larger than life character who will long be remembered."

He was convicted in 2001 of taking campaign funds for personal use, expelled from Congress and imprisoned for seven years. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency wrote that "few in the Jewish community will shed any tears" at the time.

Activities

• has been critical of fiscal policy and pointed out that paper notes by the FED are not real money, during a speech in Congress in 1993;
• was active to get John Demjanjuk freed from prison in Israel;
• after his release from prison in 2009, Traficant wrote exclusively for American Free Press;
• in July 2014 he began a grassroots campaign, Project Freedom USA, to "end the IRS, Divorce the FED, restore HONEST MONEY";

Opinions

“But I believe that Israel has a powerful stranglehold on the American government. They control both members of the House, the House and the Senate. They have us involved in wars in which we have little or no interest. Our children are coming back in body bags. Our nation is bankrupt over these wars. And if you open your mouth, you get targeted. And if they don't beat you at the poll, they'll put you in prison. [...]

The grudge is not necessarily a grudge. It's an objective assessment that no one will have the courage to speak about. They're controlling much of our foreign policy. They're influencing much of our domestic policy. Wolfowitz as undersecretary of defense manipulated President Bush number two back into Iraq. They've pushed definitely, definitely to try to get Bush before he left to move into Iran. We're conducting the expansionist policy of Israel and everybody's afraid to say it. They control much of the media, they control much of the commerce of the country, and they control powerfully both bodies of the Congress. They own the Congress.”

Death

Jim Traficant's death in September 2014 may not have been an accident. Linda Kovachik, a longtime family friend and former aide to Traficant said that he possibly suffered a heart attack before having the accident.
