Jackie Walorski was a Republican member of the US House of Representatives.

Career

In May 2022, she won her primary election unopposed.[1]

Political positions

Walorski was opposed to mask mandates.[2] In June 2022, she was sanctioned by Russia. She called it a "badge of honour".[3]

Walorski was one of 147 Republicans who voted to not certify the Electoral College results awarding the presidency Joseph Biden hours after the 2021 Washington D.C. Riots.[4]

Death

She was killed in a head-on car crash on 2 August 2022. The incident happened on State Road 19 near Nappanee, at the junction with State Road 119.

Initial reports suggested that another car crossed the road and veered into the congresswoman's vehicle in the opposite lane.[5] Two of her aides who were in her car died as well.[6] The driver of the other car was also killed.[7]

Walorski became the fifth House member to die while in office in 2022.[8][9]

An investigation was started shortly after the event.[10] The following day, the police account was revised to say that the congresswoman's car was the one that crossed the lane. Her district director, Zachery Potts, who was driving the car had crossed the centre line for unknown reasons.[11]
