| Israel/President |
|Start||16 February 1949|
|Predecessors||Chairman of the Provisional State Council of Israel|
|President of the State of Israel, largely ceremonial|
The President of the State of Israel is the head of state of Israel. The position is largely a ceremonial figurehead role, with executive power vested in the Government and the Prime Minister. This does not mean that the people filling this role have no deep state connections. The presidents have had long careers in the military/intelligence services, or done scientific research with clear military applications (weapons of mass destruction).
