Christopher Jaynes Hopkins is an award-winning American playwright, novelist and political satirist based in Berlin. A prominent Covid dissident, he was persecuted by the German judicial system on trumped-up charges.

Covid
Hopkins was a prominent Covid dissident, writing about the "New Normal" as a new form of totalitarianism[2] with a number of satirical texts.[3]
Judicial persecution
With the standard technique of using negative connotations of Nazism to criticize a currently serving government official, in August 2022, Hopkins retweeted a quote by the German Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, adding the image from his book cover[5] (see images on left and right). In August 2023, Hopkins was sent a "punishment order" by a German judge, with the choice of 60 days in jail or a 3,600 euros fine[5], for broadcasting images "intended to further the aims of a former National Socialist organization."[5]

Totalitarianism | “One of the hallmarks of totalitarian systems is the criminalization of dissent. Not just the stigmatization of dissent or the demonization of dissent, but the formal criminalization of dissent, and any other type of opposition to the official ideology of the totalitarian system. Global capitalism has been inching its way toward this step for quite some time, and now, apparently, it is ready to take it.” | 5 May 2021 | OffGuardian |
