A high profile BBC TV presenter shot dead in front of her house.

Jill Dando was a BBC journalist who was shot dead in 1999.

Murder

Jill Dando was shot dead with a single bullet to the head. The theory first adopted by UK police "was that of a crazed opportunistic individual".[1]

Witness

Barry Lindsey, the last person to see Jill Dando alive, claimed in 2013 that detectives ignored his evidence, stating "We are looking at a local guy over this murder. He is called Barry George".[2]

False conviction

A local man with a history of sex offences, Barry George, was charged and found guilty, but was freed on appeal after serving 8 years.

VIPaedophile

It was reported in 2014 that Jill Dando had received reports of a paedophile ring in the BBC and passed a file on the matter to senior management in the mid-1990s, and that some female workmates had told her that they had been groped or assaulted. However it turned out that that "no one wanted to know" and an investigation was never carried out.[3][4]
