DescriptionAn event in June 2021.

In June 2021, an attempted coup was staged inside the leadership of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire.[1]

Context

New Hampshire has the most libertarians of any state in the United States. There have been many libertarians that have been elected to the State Legislature. It is also home of the Free State Project, a migration movement founded in 2001 to recruit at least 20,000 libertarians to move to a single low-population state (New Hampshire, selected in 2003) in order to make the state a stronghold for libertarian ideas.

During the US/2020 Presidential election the party administered its own primary independent of the state, which was won by Vermin Supreme. Forty-four ballots were cast in the party's presidential primary.

Coup

On June 5, 2021, there was an attempted illegitimate take-over of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire led by Jilletta Jarvis with the assistance of former LP National Chair Joe Bishop-Henchman who resigned in the aftermath.

On 7 June 2021, the LPNH Twitter account tweeted:

"Legalize child labor. Children will learn more on a job site than in public school."[2]

The Mises Caucus, which is opposed to the Pragmatist Caucus which was in control of the Libertarian Party, planned a takeover of the Libertarian Party and had gained control over twenty-five of the state parties. In 2021, the party posted support for ending child labor laws on Twitter, which was criticized by Gary Johnson, the party's former presidential nominee. Jeremy Kauffman, a member of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party's state executive committee, wrote tweets using the party's official account calling for the legalization of child labor laws and repealing the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

On June 12, Jilletta Jarvis, chair of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party formed a new Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, took over control of the old party's digital assets, and attempted to regain control of the party's Twitter account. Jarvis claimed support from Joe Bishop-Henchman, the chair of the national Libertarian Party, based on a letter he wrote her on June 7 recognizing her as chair of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire. Bishop-Henchman denied supporting Jarvis' actions, pointing to the letter having been written several days before the dispute. The Libertarian National Committee voted twelve to two, with three abstaining, against a motion supported by Bishop-Henchman to disaffiliate the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire. Joe Bishop-Henchman and two members of the Libertarian National Committee resigned after the motion failed. Jarvis returned control of the party's website and other digital assets on June 17. Former vice-presidential candidate Spike Cohen and former Representative Justin Amash criticized Jarvis' attempted takeover.[3]

Tim Pool[4] and Michael Malice talked about the incident on Youtube, questioning if even third parties in the US were becoming infiltrated by unknown but-not-so-named deep state operatives.
