Sir Daniel Bethlehem QC (born 16 June 1960) is a barrister and former Principal Legal Adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2006 to 2011). In this role, he had overall responsibility for all aspects of legal advice to the Foreign Secretary, other FCO ministers and policy departments, and was also the Principal Legal Adviser across Whitehall on questions of public international law.[1]
At the June 2010 Queen's birthday honours, Sir Daniel was made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG).[2]
He is a founding Director of Legal Policy International Limited (LPI), a specialist international policy consultancy concerned with high legal content foreign policy and national security issues,[3] and a consulting Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).[4]
