Career
After a career in ministerial cabinets and ministerial directorates from 1967 to 1974 (he was notably member of the High Audiovisual Council), Jean-Paul Parayre joined the private sector[1].
He chaired the biggest French private group PSA Peugeot Citroën (1977-1984). He was the initiator of the takeover of Chrysler Europe in 1978 on the eve of the second oil shock (1978-80), which led the group to the brink. He remained a member of the PSA Supervisory Board and was part of the selection committee that chose Christian Streiff in 2006[2].
He became managing director and then chairman of the management board of the construction company Dumez (1984-1990) - a group of which he married the daughter of a founder (Chaufour)[3], and organized the merger with Lyonnaise des eaux which gave birth to Lyonnaise des eaux-Dumez (1990-1992), of which he became vice-president[4]. However, it is a semi-failure for his career: he did not succeed in taking over the presidency of the group from Jérôme Monod[5]. At that time, he was one of the key men in the negotiation of the TransManche Link (TML) which would become the Eurotunnel project.
