Hans Christoph Freiherr Schenk von Stauffenberg, was one of the founders of the post-war private intelligence Stauffenberg Service close to the CSU/CDU, and attended Le Cercle in Bonn in 1983. He played a key role in the conspiracy to topple Willy Brandt.

Background

Christian Freiherr von Stauffenberg was a cousin of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, who attmped to assassinate Adolf Hitler.[1][2]

Career

On September 13, 1982, Der Spiegel reported that "Hans Christoph Freiherr Schenk von Stauffenberg, a distant relative of Hitler assassin Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, is a key figure in the intelligence network of the CSU. He maintains a confidential "information service " (circulation: 100 copies), based on domestic and foreign intelligence sources. Franz Josef Strauss takes the Stauffenberg service, according to a close collaborator, "very seriously"."[3]

Stefanie Waske wrote:

Willy Brandt was always viewed as a traitor by the political right since he had fled Nazi Germany for Norway and was active in the anti-Nazi resistance. When he became Chancellor in 1969 a group of reactionaries in the CDU/CSU - primarily aristocrats like Stauffenberg - immediately begin to plot his demise. Brandt's foreign policy of Ostpolitik - the rapprochement with East Germany and Soviet Bloc, only enraged the activists further, so much so that they formed a private secret espionage organization that operated independently from the BND.[4]

He attended Le Cercle in Bonn in 1983.
