The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) or the Turkistan Islamic Movement (TIM) formerly known as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), is a Uyghur Islamic extremist organisation founded in Western China. ETIM's stated goals are to establish an independent state called East Turkestan replacing the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The UN Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee has listed ETIM as a terrorist organisation since 11 September 2002,[1] though the United States removed it from the US list of Foreign Terrorist Organisations (FTOs) in 2020.
