Mikhail Trepashkin is a Moscow attorney and former lieutenant colonel in the KGB and it's successor, the Federal Security Service, who was invited by MP Sergei Kovalev to assist in an 'independent inquiry' of the Russian apartment bombings in September 1999, that were used as a pretext to motivate the Second Chechen War.
Arrest
He was sentenced on May 19, 2004 to four years in prison on a charge of revealing state secrets and on an unrelated weapons charge. He was arrested in October 2003, a week before he was to have unveiled his findings in a public courtroom, according to an article in the LA Times.[1]
