Russian financial whistleblower who dropped dead in London while out jogging. |
Alexander Yurevich Perepilichny was a Russian financial whistleblower.
Whistleblowing
In 2009, Perepilichny moved to London. In 2010 he gave documents to Swiss prosecutors detailing the involvement of senior Russian officials in the fraud of $220 million from the Russian Treasury through Hermitage Capital Management. The case involved[How?] the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.[1]
Death
In 2017, it was reported, but unconfirmed, that U.S. intelligence officials had passed an MI6 intelligence report that stated that Perepilichny was likely "assassinated on direct orders from Putin or people close to him.” A U.S. intelligence report to US Congress claimed with "high confidence" that Perepilichny was assassinated on the orders of Russian officials.[2]
