Dr. Ariel Merari is a retired "terrorism expert".
Background
Merari received a B.A. degree in psychology and economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Career
He worked at the Department of Psychology, Tel Aviv University, chairing it from 1982-1985.[1]
He "established Israel’s Hostage Negotiations and Crisis Management Unit and commanded it for more than 20 years. In recent years he has headed a large study of suicide terrorism.[1]
Opinions
Merari stated in 2010 that "national humiliation" was an important motivation for "suicide bombers".[2]
