The Naval Medical Research Center (originally known as the Naval Medical Research Institute) in located in Bethesda, Maryland. It is a specialised facility to carry out research of interest to the US Navy.

The NMRI was the first organisation to research LSD for the purposes of "mind control". Their 1947 Project CHATTER was directed by Lieutenant Charles Savage, under Dr. Theodor Benzinger.[1]
