Clareine Enderby (solicitor, politician) | |
---|---|
Clareine Enderby had been named as the Liberal Democrats prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) for Finchley and Golders Green, but is now the PPC for the Hendon constituency.
Ms Enderby, who worked as a solicitor before going to drama school, said:
- “I joined the party in January 2017 as a result of my frustration and distress at the government’s disastrous mishandling of Brexit, and my alarm at the failure of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party to act as an effective opposition.
- “Neither Mrs May nor Mr Corbyn are listening: the tide has turned on Brexit. We need politicians who understand people’s concerns and make policy based on evidence, not dogma.”
In the UK/2017 General Election the Liberal Democrat candidate Jonathan Davies came a distant third with 6.6% of the vote.
The Liberal Democrats have never previously held the Finchley and Golders Green seat.[1]
On 26 September 2019, the chair of Barnet Liberal Democrats announced that Clareine Enderby had been replaced by Luciana Berger:
- "Luciana lives in the constituency, has a track record as a dedicated, hard-working MP and has an unwavering determination to see an end to the Brexit chaos now engulfing us.
- "She has the full support of myself, the whole Barnet executive and the former candidate for the constituency Clareine Enderby. We believe she will be a brilliant candidate in Finchley and Golders Green.[2]
On 6 October 2019, Clareine Enderby was selected as the Liberal Democrat PPC for the nearby Hendon constituency.[3] Alasdair Hill, Hendon's LibDem PPC in the 2015 and 2017 General Elections, resigned in protest and joined the Labour Party.[4]
