Suh Hoon is a South Korean spook.
Career
In 2017, Suh Hoon reportedly ordered a stop to domestic spying. In the inauguration ceremony in which he became director of the Korean National Intelligence Service, he vowed to turn the group into a "completely different entity".[1]
In December 2022 Hoon was arrested in South Korea on charges of tampering with evidence that was related to the killing of South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries official by North Korean espionage agents near the Northern Limit Line in September 2020.[2]
Suh Hoon’s arrest came as President Yoon Suk Yeol's conservative government investigated his predecessor’s handling of that killing and another border incident the same year, cases that prompted criticism Seoul was desperately trying to appease the North to improve relations. Former President Moon Jae-in, who staked his single-term on inter-Korean rapprochement before leaving office, reacted angrily to the investigation into Suh's actions. Moon issued a statement accusing Yoon's government of raising groundless allegations and politicizing sensitive security matters.[2]
