Harvey Weinstein is an American film producer accused by over 50 women of harassment or assault.[1]
Allegations
In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that more than a dozen women had accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, assault or rape. This began a flood of similar charges, his wife left him, Weinstein was sacked and honours were stripped from him.
2018 Charge
On Friday 25 May 2018 he was charged with rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for alleged incidents involving two separate women, after he earlier surrendered to authorities in New York. [2]
Response
Weinstein employed Black Cube to gather information about women accusing him to try to help him escape conviction. Asher Tishler, a member of Black Cube’s advisory board, remarked “In retrospect, it’s a shame we took the job.“[3]
Purposes
In his article A man hears what he wants to hear for the Canadian Free Press, Brooklyn Lowe suggests that "Everyone knew for years, both inside and outside Hollywood, that Harvey Weinstein was/is a suspected rapist; just as everyone knows that Bill Clinton was/is a suspected rapist" and suggests that the allegations may have been timed as a distraction from difficult to explain circumstances of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting.[4]
