Type | idea |
Self-sufficiency is to be able, as a person or group, to subsist from your own labor.[1] Near self sufficiency was still common around 150 years ago,[2] but today is a rare occurrence. A society (within a nation state) may be still self-sufficient in some areas of it's daily live, or can reach there on short notice.
Concerns
With the tightening of regulations in the western world, like the:
- restriction of farming in the Netherlands [3][4]
- the EU initiative to ban fire wood collected from local forests [5]
it appears there is an effort underway to disrupt production/supply and the ability of people to get essentials for their daily lives.
