An early 20th century sexual blackmailer who had so much dirt on key establishment figures that his MI5 file remains censored, 65+ years after his death. |
John Arthur Maundy Gregory, who later used the name Arthur John Peter Michael Maundy Gregory, was a sexual blackmailer. He became friends with Vernon Kell.
Career
Much of the information about Gregory comes from his own papers and CV, which are highly questionable. According to these sources, Vernon Kell, head of MI5, personally recruited him in 1909.
Establishment silence
As of 2006, MI5 still refused to share details of Gregory's file. The Telegraph observed about the remaining papers that it is "unlikely that they will be seen for decades to come, if ever."[1]
