The Minister for the Economy and Foreign Trade is a position in the Luxembourgian cabinet, either by itself or combined with other positions, since 15 July 1964. He/she is in charge of implementing the economic competitiveness policy of Luxembourg.[1]
Former Ministers normally end up in the well-paid sinecure the European Parliament.
Responsibilities
The Ministry is structured around the following priority areas:
- General economic policy ;
- Enterprise policy ;
- Economic promotion, development and diversification ;
- General policy for small and medium-sized enterprises ;
- General policy for tourism
- Foreign trade ;
- Development of new markets, quality and regulations ;
- Research and innovation ;
- Intellectual property ;
- Energy policy ;
- Policy for the legal protection of consumers, consumer policy on the common market and at the national level ;
- Space policy at the European and international levels ;
- Maritime affairs, navigation and maritime regulation
