History
The site began in March 2020 as Lockdown Sceptics, and quickly became popular among the COVID-19 resistance. It was also highly critical of "wokism". In 2022, it changed its name to The Daily Sceptic.
Toby Young's half-sister Gaia Young, died in 2021 aged 25 after taking two Covid jabs, officially "of a heatstroke". She died in July, but the case only was published in corporate media in September. He refused to make any connection to the jabs.[1]
COVID as cock-up
In the Daily Sceptic, Young set out his position about the Covid era as a cock-up, not a conspiracy, very clearly:
- "The temptation when debunking ‘the Science' behind these policies is to see sinister cabals at work, bent on some secret plot to subvert democratic institutions and usher in a New World Order in which they control every aspect of our lives. But as someone who's earned his living as a journalist for over 35 years, occasionally with a front row seat on the inner workings of government, I'm a subscriber to the cock-up theory of history. I don't doubt that plenty of clever, successful people seized upon opportunities during the coronavirus crisis, enriching themselves or consolidating their power and status in some other way, and a fair few are now doing what they can to prolong it. But that's a far cry from the ‘Plandemic'. History can in rare circumstances be bent to the will of an extraordinary individual, but it is never planned."[2]
Don't question the existence of Covid
When asked in October 2024 to by Jessica Hockett, Jonathan Engler, and Martin Neil - which regard lab leak as one end of a false dichotomy with wet market/zoonotic leap being the other - to host a written debate between them and Lab Origin/Leak proponents Alina Chan and Matt Ridley, Daily Sceptic, replied that
We don't publish articles that question whether COVID-19 was due in large part to a novel virus spreading because our editorial line doesn't regard this view as a theory with merit. I think people know where we stand on that and we've been consistent.[3]
Censorship & reversal by Paypal
In September 2022 Paypal suspended the Daily Sceptic's account, together with Toby Young's personal account and that of the Free Speech Union, without specifying any specific reason. After Toby Young declared his interest in legal action, and thousands of Paypal users cancelled their accounts in protest, the decision was reversed.
