The German Ambassador to the Holy See is Germany's diplomatic representative to the Vatican.
Formal diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the current Federal Republic of Germany date to the 1951 and the end of the Allied occupation.
Overview
The conservative parties CDU and especially its Bavarian sister party CSU have had strong deep political connections to the Vatican. The Stauffenberg Service, a private CSU-linked intelligence service, tied in with the Vatican's intelligence network. Also Opus Dei is strong in some parts of Germany, like Cologne.
