The foreign ambassadors to Macedonia. |
The foreign Ambassadors to North Macedonia are the respective nations' highest diplomatic representatives to North Macedonia.
Overview
The capital city of Skopje hosts 33 embassies, as of 2019[1]. Several other countries have missions accredited from other capitals.
The US ambassador is the most powerful one. Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that the amount the US government has spent to "promote democracy" in the country is more than $1.75 billion.[2]
The foreign relations of North Macedonia since its independence in 1991 have been characterized by the country's efforts to gain international recognition under its previous constitutional name, Macedonia, overshadowed by a long-standing, dead-locked dispute with neighboring Greece. The name change was "approved" in a sham referendum in 2018.[3]
