Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the alleged architect of the 9/11 attacks on the US, is due for trial along with four other men (Walid bin Attash, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ammar al-Baluchi and Mustafa al-Hawsawi) at a military court in Guantánamo Bay.[1] The trial was scheduled to start on 11 January 2021, but procedural delays – compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic closing the base – have made it a long-drawn out process. More hearings were scheduled for September 2021.

KSM's lawyer, David Nevin, believes the latest hearings are timed to show the mainstream media that something is happening on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.[2]
