On 25 July 2013 he was sentenced to two years detention, suspended for 12 months.

Claims about Diana's death

On 19 August 2013 the Daily Mail reported Nightingale as claiming that the SAS was involved in the death of Diana[1] The Guardian suggested he was highly "unreliable".[2]

On 18 January 2014 the Daily Mail reported his wife had been paid £500 in cash not to mention her husband's allegation, and had been warned by an SAS officed that if she gave evidence that undermined her former husband’s witness testimony at Nightingale’s court martial "she would end up dead like Lee Rigby".[3]
