A central bank digital currency (CBDC) (also called digital fiat currency[1][2] is a digital currency issued by a central bank, rather than by a commercial bank. It will be implemented using a blockchain hosted on a single central server of a central bank.

Agustín Carstens, general manager of the Bank for International Settlements, explains the advantages of CBDCs
