Tom Hayes was the Deputy Leader of Oxford City Council.[1] During COVID 19 he was Cabinet Member for Green Transport and Zero Carbon.[2]

Career

He promoted the Zero Emissions Zone[3] and the 15-minute city.[4]

In June 2022, he stepped down as deputy council leader.[5] Like Paul Mason, he was longlisted to be the Labour candidate in the Stretford and Urmston by-election.[6] He was unsuccesful.[7]

In December 2022 he was announced as the Labour candidate for Bournemouth East despite having zero connection to the area.[8]

During the May 2023 local elections, Tom Hayes was caught on a door bell camera stealing election literature from a letter box.[9] He looked right at the camera swapping the leaflet for a Labour one.[10] The leaflet was from the Green Party and the footage was taken at an address in Moordown ward where the Greens ended up taking two seats from the Conservatives.[11]

The Labour Party made no comment.[12]

On 4 May 2023, Reconnecting Oxford tweeted:

"Tom Hayes is a serving city councillor in Oxford, and we haven't heard from him in months. He pushed a series of divisive transport policies on our neighbourhood, and then disappeared locally.
Before trying to become an MP in Bournemouth, he tried to become an MP in Manchester."[13]
