Official narrative
Salah Abdeslam is suspected to have played a key role in organising the 13 November 2015 mass murder in Paris.[1] His brother Ibrahim Abdeslam was the suicide bomber who blew himself up near a café in eastern Paris, according to Le Monde.
An international arrest warrant was issued for the 26-year-old suspect, who had been stopped and questioned by police at the Belgian border on the night of the attacks but allowed to pass through. Salah Abdeslam was thought to be hiding in or around the Molenbeek-Saint-Jean district of Brussels in Belgium.[2]
Arrest
On 18 March 2016 Abdeslam, who had been on the run since the attacks in November, was wounded in the leg as police moved in on a flat in the Molenbeek area and arrested him:
- "We got him," said Theo Francken, Belgium's Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration.[3]
Sentence
On 23 April 2018 Salah Abdeslam was sentenced in Brussels to 20 years in prison.
