Foreign ambassadors to the African country of São Tomé and Príncipe. |
At present, São Tomé, the capital city of São Tomé and Príncipe, hosts ten embassies. Several other countries accredit ambassadors from other capitals.[1]
Overview
Until independence in 1975, São Tomé and Príncipe had few ties abroad except those that passed through Portugal. Following independence, the new government sought to expand its diplomatic relationships. The common language, tradition and colonial experience have resulted in close collaboration between S. Tome and other former Portuguese colonies in Africa, particularly Angola.[2]
