I suppose the logic behind avoiding the red links at the top is to prevent new users from clicking on them and being disappointed. This would be good thing, but this approach has at least two serious drawbacks:
- The page is not future proofed - it looks tidy now, but if any of the red link authors gets a page, it'll benefit from human intervention, as opposed to the 'all at the top' way, which gets slowly better without human intervention.
- The author metadata is missing for the red authors. Although this is deliberately invisible to most people, it is what allows SMWDocs to do its magic. Without the names at the top, if someone makes a page for one of the missing authors, this document won't automatically appear on that page.
As I wrote this, it occurred to me that one way to avoid the red links at the top would be to display authors who don't have pages as plaintext rather than links. This would solve the problem, wouldn't it?
