Max Benjamin Rowland Hill KC is the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales, succeeding Alison Saunders as from 1 November 2018. Previously, Max Hill was the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation in the United Kingdom, replacing David Anderson in 2017.[1]

Background
Max Hill was born in Hertfordshire in 1964. He attended state primary schools and, following a family move to Northumberland, the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He won a Scholarship to study Law at St Peter’s College, Oxford, from 1983-6. He qualified as a barrister in 1987 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008.
Increasing fees for prosecutors
On 4 February 2023, Max Hill tweeted:
- As I have just confirmed with @thebarcouncil, we have secured necessary additional funding from @hmtreasury allowing us to press ahead with increases in prosecution fees to restore parity with defence fees. @TheCriminalBar @CPSUK[2]
