Karima El Mahroug, known as Ruby Rubacuori worked as a cabaret dancer and is known in the context of the Rubygate scandal, in which the Italian President of the Council Silvio Berlusconi was accused of having sexual relations with her when she was seventeen years old.[1] Silvio Berlusconi was then charged with abuse of power and corruption of minors.
She grew up in Messina, where she acquired her nickname of "thief of hearts".[2] She left home at fourteen and became known to the police following various thefts, and the authorities tried to find her a place to live.[citation needed] She lived for a while with a thirty-three year old man, and worked as a cleaning lady, dancer and beautician.[citation needed]
Rubygate
She was accused of stealing 4,000 € from her roommate for which she was arrested in Milan in May 2010. She was released following a call from Silvio Berlusconi, who told the Milanese police that she was the granddaughter of Hosni Mubarak.[3]
When questioned during the Rubygate investigation about this surprising intercession, Berlusconi stated that he had acted without personal motivation, simply to help people in desperate situations. However, leaks from the investigation seem to indicate that Ruby not only accepted money and jewelry from the Italian president of the Council, but also participated in at least three parties that ended in sex games or "bunga bunga".
