Japanese McKinsey executive working on decarbonization and net zero.

Serves as Asia’s coleader and Japan’s leader for McKinsey Sustainability, the firm’s global client service platform to help all industry sectors achieve net zero emissions by 2050 - and leads the Chemicals and Agriculture Practices in Japan.[1]

He was a "Project Manager in Media, Entertainment and Information: Shaping Norms and Values in Digital Media" for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2012.[2] In 2022, he was selected a Young Global Leader by the WEF.

Background

After an adolescence that spanned Singapore, New York, and [[London], Yamada returned to Japan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in economics from Keio University. He has also earned a postgraduate certificate in sustainable business from the University of Cambridge.[3]

McKinsey

Yamada has worked in different positions for McKinsey since 2010. Since 2014, he has worked with leading country decarbonization pathways in Asia, and the topics of portfolio decarbonization, leading towards the goal of net zero in 2050. He has been active in the firm’s global energy and materials area, covering organizations in the power, chemicals, materials, and agriculture sectors, on behalf of the world’s largest financial institutions.[4]
