Augustin Ndindiliyimana is a former Rwandan general. The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda convicted him of genocide but acquitted him upon appeal, a serious embarrassment for the Tribunal.[1]
Career
Ndindiliyimana was Chief of Staff of the Rwandan Gendarmerie during the Rwandan genocide. On May 17, 2011, the UN War Crimes Tribunal for Rwanda sentenced him to 11 years in prison for genocide. Having been in custody for 11 years, he was able to leave the court as a free man.[citation needed]
