The single dose makes it a popular vaccine to distribute to the homeless, prisoners, and refugee populations.

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine or Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is a COVID-19 vaccine that was developed by Janssen Vaccines in Leiden, Netherlands,[1] and its Belgian parent company Janssen Pharmaceuticals,[2] subsidiary of American company Johnson & Johnson.[3][4]

It is a viral vector vaccine based on a human adenovirus that has been modified to contain the gene for making the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The vaccine requires only one dose and does not need to be stored frozen.[5]

The vaccine has been granted an emergency use authorization by the US Food and Drug Administration[6] and a conditional marketing authorization by the European Medicines Agency (EMA)[7]

Since it is a single dose vaccine, it has been a popular vaccine to distribute to the homeless,[8][9][10][11] prisoners,[12][13] and refugee populations.[14]

Byram Bridle“But this is because these COVID-19 vaccines have reached the public rollout phase by, and I’ll say it in quotes, “cutting corners”. And by cutting corners, I’m not implying that people were skipping key steps, although honestly, there could be some potential questions around that.”Byram Bridle24 February 2021
Byram Bridle“None of us were expecting, I don’t think, that the vaccines would be rolled out very early on in the phase three clinical trials. So the phase three trials are not done. So in essence, what this means is the public rollout right now is an extension of the phase three clinical trial. So those being vaccinated now are, whether they realize it or not, part of the phase three experiment.”Byram Bridle24 February 2021
