An opioid is a drug which acts upon the body in a similar way to opium. Many have been invented since the development of the first, morphine. Some a totally synthetic,[citation needed] some are refinements of a plant product such as opium.
Usage
Opioids are widely used, especially in the US as analgesic drugs.
