The concept of 'mental illness' has a history of abuse by establishments seeking to enforce belief in their official narrative.

USSR

The USSR had a long history of equating dissent with mental disorder

Encarceration of whistleblowers

Adrian Schoolcraft, an NYPD whistleblower, who had recordings to back up his claims, was forcibly encarcerated in a psychiatric ward in Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, handcuffed tightly to a bed and prevented from using a telephone, by orders of police who were present.[1]

In 2006 Clare Swinney brought a complaint to the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority in connection to TVNZ's unsubstantiated claim that Osama bin Laden was behind the 9/11 attacks. In response, she was threatened, forcibly incarcerated in a psychiatric ward and subjected to compulsory treatment.[2]
