The Identity Documents Bill is a legislative programme that initiated by the Coalition Government and announced in the Queen's Speech on 25 May 2010 as being a law that mandated the scrapping of the ID card scheme introduced under New Labour in the aftermath of the attacks of 9/11. It also promised to destroy all related data that is kept in the National Identity Register.[1]
The introduction of the Bill and its proposals to scrap ID cards is expected to save the UK £4.5 billion.[2]
