The largest university in Arkansas

The University of Arkansas is a public land-grant research university in Fayetteville, Arkansas.[1] It is the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System and the largest university in Arkansas. Founded as Arkansas Industrial University in 1871, classes were first held on January 22, 1872, with its present name adopted in 1899.

It is noted for its strong programs in architecture, agriculture (particularly animal science and poultry science),[2] communication disorders, creative writing, history, law (particularly agricultural law),[3] and Middle Eastern studies,[4] as well as for its business school, of which the supply chain management program was ranked the best in North America by Gartner in July 2020.[5]

History

The university was founded as Arkansas Industrial University in 1871 and took its current name in 1899. As the first state university in the southern states, the UAF accepted an African-American student in 1948.

Though neither attended the university, both former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state and presidential nominee Hillary Clinton taught at the University's law school in the early 1970s. The house where they lived in Fayetteville is now a historic site and museum.[6]
