John Kirkwood Overbey was a business partner of George H. W. Bush.[1]
Career
Overbey was in the Marine Corps during World War 2.[2]
After the war, he settled in Midlands, Texas. In 1951, "with John's field experience and Bush's financial contacts, they formed the Bush Overbey Oil Development Company...Preferring the simpler life, he left the corporate world of Zapata to continue as an independent oil operator."[3]
In 1970, he formed Forty-Nine North and moved to Anchorage, Alaska with his families "to participate in the Alaskan oil boom". He served on the Board of Wien Air Alaska, "an airline that was owned and controlled by former "bush" pilots". He was made Chairman of the Board of Alaska Pacific University.[1]
