The 2022 Tiverton and Honiton by-election was held on 23 June 2022. It was triggered by the resignation of Tory Member of Parliament (MP) Neil Parish who resigned on 4 May 2022 following his admission to accusations that he viewed pornography on his mobile phone in the House of Commons chamber.[1]
The by-election was won by Richard Foord of the Liberal Democrats with 22,537 votes, a majority of 6,144 over the Tory Helen Hurford who received 16,393 votes. The numerical majority of 24,239 recorded in the UK/2019 General Election is thought to have been the largest ever overturned in a by-election.
The election was held on the same day as the Wakefield by-election in West Yorkshire,[2] which the Conservatives lost to the Labour Party.[3]
Candidates

- On 20 May 2022, the Liberal Democrats announced that their candidate would be Richard Foord, a retired Army Major who currently works in a university.[6]
