The UK Freedom of Information Act was enacted by the UK Parliament on 30 November 2000.
Intelligence agencies MI5 and MI6 are not subject to the act. Similarly to the US situation, the legislation does not appear to be very functional as regards matters of deep political importance, and some requests are left in limbo[1], others yield carelessly copy/pasted replies[2] while others are denied without even being read.[3]
