I spoke up about categories, because they are higher maintenance if changes are made later, whereas things in the templates can be changed (in theory at least) by just changing a line of code. They're used for the site documentation itself, e.g. policy and templates etc. I designed most of the SMW templates years ago, and they have not seen much use or need to change. There are slight incompatabilities with an earlier plan (e.g. |type in Template:Group, which has been effectively replaced by |constitutes),  but as a tool set they are pretty general purpose, so I've watched with interest at some of the adaptions and usage I hadn't foreseen. So keep playing :-) -- Robin (talk) 18:40, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

I've just been to Wallenberg Sphere, which I see forwards to Wallenberg family. My plan was to make a page of type group, with |members= Bo Ramfors‎, Lennart Johansson, ... etc. My belief is that the SMW framework here offers a strict superset of functionality of the standard categories. The old system of categories has one advantage that visitors/editors new to the site may be more likely to use it, but otherwise, I think it is inferior to SMW. I did make a lot of categories a long time ago, but since the templates got standardised, I have been unmaking them every since, since it distracted from the SMW system.

Taking "family" in the biological sense, a separate page seems suitable, in the extended (i.e. mafia) sense, less so. What do you think about a separate Wallenberg Sphere page, possibly as a sub-page Wallenberg family/Connections, Wallenberg family/Milieu, Wallenberg family/Orbit or some such? -- Robin (talk) 14:12, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
