Colombia has had diplomatic relations with France since 1830. The diplomatic relations were regularized with a treaty in 1892.[1]
Attention to relations between France and Colombia increased following the abduction by the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) of Franco-Colombian and presidential candidate Ingrid Bétancourt in February 2003.
