The Mayor of Tallinn is the highest official of the Estonian capital of Tallinn. The Mayor heads the city council and carries out its general management, is responsible for strategic planning of the city's development, budget, relations with state bodies and the government, cooperation with universities in Estonia.
The offices saw a reset in January 1990, with the independence from the Soviet Union, when the title was changed from Chairman of Executive Committee to Mayor.[1]
Mayor Edgar Savisaar, 2001-2004 and 2007-2015, was seen as too Russian-friendly and removed by the deep state.
Mayor Jüri Ratas went on to become Prime Minister.
