Shiva Ayyadurai, (Dr Shiva) is an Indian-American engineer, politician and entrepreneur. Ayyadurai holds four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), including a Ph.D. in biological engineering, and is a Fulbright grant recipient.[1] He is the inventor of one of the earliest IT based messaging systems which he tried to patent by the name: "E-Mail".[2][3]
He dissents with corporate founded science on many topics and is therefore called a "conspiracy theorist", or: promoter of "conspiracy theories", pseudoscience and unfounded medical claims, as Wikipedia writes.
As a 14 year old in 1978, he created a computer program which was an electronic version of an interoffice mail system.[4] He named the program "EMAIL" and applied for a copyright as software patents were not granted at that time in the U.S. While some organizations recognized his invention, he never received wide-spread recognition.[5][6]
Articles critical of the claim most often point to Ray Tomlinson as the original inventor.[7][8]
