The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is a public university with two primary campuses in Fredericton and Saint John, New Brunswick. It is the oldest English-language university in Canada, and among the oldest public universities in North America.[1][2] UNB was founded by a group of seven Loyalists who left the United States after the American Revolution.[3]
The University of New Brunswick has educated numerous Canadian federal cabinet ministers including Sir John Douglas Hazen, William Pugsley and Gerald Merrithew, many Premiers of New Brunswick such as Frank McKenna and Blaine Higgs,[4] two puisne justices of the Supreme Court of Canada, Oswald Smith Crocket and Gérard La Forest,[5] as well as prominent artists and writers.[6][7]
