Portuguese Minister of Culture |
The Ministry of Culture (MC) constitutes the grouping of services, bodies and structures under the supervision of the Minister of Culture. This, in turn, constituted the member of the Government responsible for defining and implementing cultural development policies, encouraging artistic creation and the diffusion and internationalization of Portuguese culture and language.
With the inauguration of the XIX Constitutional Government, in 2011, all services of the extinct Ministry of Culture were integrated into the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, where they were overseen by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jorge Barreto Xavier, directly dependent on the Prime Minister . In 2015, with the XX Constitutional Government, the ministry was restored, with the designation Ministry of Culture, Equality and Citizenship.
