  • April 5, 1986 | Statement by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Speakes on the Terrorist Bombing of a West Berlin Nightclub - (...) every nation must do its part to prevent terrorism and to isolate those, condemn them, and to bring an end to these individuals, groups, or nations, in some cases, who sponsor terrorism. https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/research/speeches/40586b / https://archive.is/q4uPz
  • April 9, 1986 | The President's News Conference - Q: Mr. President, do you have any solid evidence that Qadhafi is responsible for the recent acts of terrorism? And if you are contemplating major retaliation, won't you be killing a lot of innocent people? I'd like to follow up. | The President: Helen, we have considerable evidence, over quite a long period of time, that Qadhafi has been quite outspoken about his participation in urging on and supporting terrorist acts -- a kind of warfare, as he has called it. Right now, however, I can't answer you specifically on this other, because we're continuing with our intelligence work and gathering evidence on these most recent attacks, and we're not ready yet to speak on that. And any action that we might take would be dependent on what we learn. And so, I can't go further. https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/research/speeches/40986d / https://archive.is/iAIWo
  • April 14, 1986 | (The President's) Address to the Nation on the United States Air Strike Against Libya - Libya's agents then planted the bomb. On April 4th the People's Bureau alerted Tripoli that the attack would be carried out the following morning. The next day they reported back to Tripoli on the great success of their mission. Our evidence is direct; it is precise; it is irrefutable. https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/research/speeches/41486g / https://archive.is/04yRO
  • April 15, 1986 | (The President's) Remarks at a White House Meeting With Members of the American Business Conference - Yet let us not underestimate the reach of Qadhafi's terror. He's tried to subvert half a dozen countries on his own continent of Africa and has had Libyan students and dissidents murdered in faraway capitals. And I would remind the House voting this week that this archterrorist has sent $400 million and an arsenal of weapons and advisers into Nicaragua to bring his war home to the United States. He has bragged that he is helping the Nicaraguans because they fight America on its own ground. We do not underestimate the brutality of this evil man, but Colonel Qadhafi ought not to underestimate either the capacity or legitimate anger of a free people. https://www.reaganlibrary.gov/research/speeches/41586c / https://archive.is/ptdwE
  • 15/16 April 1986 | Globalsecurity - The actual combat commenced at 0200 (local Libyan time), lasted less than 12 minutes, and dropped 60 tons of munitions. Resistance outside the immediate area of attack was nonexistent, and Libyan air defense aircraft never launched. One FB-111 strike aircraft was lost during the strike. The entire armada remained in the vicinity for over an hour trying to account for all aircraft. - Although retaliation for the Berlin bombing had been anticipated, Libyan air defenses seemed almost wholly unprepared for the attack. In fact, it was reported that antiaircraft fire had not begun until after the American planes had passed over their targets at Tripoli. Libya's formidable air-defense system (manned by 3,000 Soviet air-defense technicians) was completely overwhelmed by precise Navy suppression strikes. It was reported that some Libyan soldiers abandoned their posts in fright and confusion and officers were slow to give orders. Also, Libyans fighters failed to get airborne to challenge the attacking bombers. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/el_dorado_canyon.htm / http://archive.is/kChj
  • After Mid-April 1986 | Unsafe at any Altitude, Trento - (...) a propaganda operation designed to reshape European public opinion. - To achieve this, a Lebanese CIA asset named Jamal Hamdan, who helps the US in various ways around this time, makes a series of phone calls from an apartment in Cyprus to suspected terrorists in Germany. Hamdan also tells a relative living in West Berlin that his brother Ali and a friend will enter the city carrying a package, which, it is implied, is a bomb. Ali Hamdan and the friend then enter West Berlin illegally from the east and are arrested by German police, who wrongly believe that they actually have a bomb and the plot is real. Word of the plot is leaked to the US press, enabling the Reagan administration to quell criticism of the attack on Libya. The CIA then steps in and has the two men held in Germany released. http://www.historycommons.org/context.jsp?item=aaftermid0486fakebomb&scale=0#aaftermid0486fakebomb / http://archive.is/Uwdg9
  • April 21, 1986 | UPI/LA Times - West Berlin police have arrested a Palestinian. - (Manfred) Ganschow said the suspect was presented in a police lineup to “more than 100 people”. - Bild newspaper reported that the police witnesses had identified the Palestinian “beyond doubt.” Until today, West Berlin police had been saying they had no firm clues to the identity of the suspect in the nightclub bombing that the United States, citing secret intelligence evidence, blamed on Libya. In Bonn, Michael-Andreas Butz, a spokesman for the West German Interior Ministry, told a news conference, “The arrest and warrant is a triumph for cooperation of international security authorities.” https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-04-21-mn-927-story.html / http://archive.is/hSys9
  • 25. April 1986 | Die Zeit - Seit letztem Wochenende sitzt der staatenlose, in Jordanien geborene Palästinenser Ahmed Nawat Mansur Hasi (35 Jahre alt) in Untersuchungshaft.
  • May 6, 1986 | AP - Police have arrested Farouk Salameh, 39, and Fayez Sahawneh, 34, both natives of Jordan, said Manfred Ganschow, who heads the West Berlin police team investigating the La Belle disco bombing. Salameh and Sahawneh were suspected of taking part in the March 29 bombing of the German-Arab Friendship Society office in West Berlin, and were being investigated in connection with the disco bombing, Ganschow told a news conference. Authorities said there were several similarities between the two blasts, including the type of explosive used. On April 18, West Berlin police arrested a Palestinian, Ahmed Nawaf Mansur Hasi, 35, in connection with the La Belle attack. Authorities said Hasi led them to Salameh and Sahawneh, who were arrested Thursday. Ganschow said Hasi and Salameh admitted taking part in the March bombing in which seven Arabs were injured, two of them seriously. Hasi and Salameh claimed they got the explosives for that attack from the Syrian Embassy in East Berlin, said federal police officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. West Berlin Justice Ministry spokesman Volker Kaehne would only say that an ″Arab office″ in East Berlin was suspected of providing the explosives used in the bombing of the friendship society, but declined to identify the country. Hasi and Salameh acknowledged smuggling the explosives from East Berlin some time in late February or early March, Kaehne said. Sahawneh is being held on suspicion he helped transport the explosives, the spokesman said. They have not been formally charged. https://apnews.com/4bfde623cc42ada4bff744dcf82bfa4f / https://archive.is/X90uN
  • May 21, 1986 | AP - The Bonn-based national daily Die Welt quoted sources in the General Union of Libyan Students in West Germany, an anti-Khadafy group, as saying the ex- diplomat, Mohammed Ashour, was gunned down ″for political reasons on the night of May 2-3.″ Die Welt quoted unidentified sources as also saying there had been a shootout Monday in the Libyan Embassy in East Berlin, possibly between diplomats at odds over Khadafy’s alleged use of the embassy as a planning center for the West Berlin discotheque attack. https://apnews.com/1794707475dbcd348ac2a78b0a723f5f / https://archive.is/gDbCV
  • February 22, 1987 | NYT (S. Hersh) - There was widespread concern and anger inside the National Security Agency over the Administration's handling of the Libyan messages intercepted immediately after the April 5 terrorist bombing of a West Berlin discotheque. The White House's reliance on these messages as irrefutable evidence that Libya was behind that bombing was immediately challenged by some allies, most notably West Germany. Some N.S.A. experts now express similar doubts because the normal intelligence channels for translating and interpreting such messages were purposely bypassed. As of this month, the N.S.A.'s North African specialists had still not been shown these intercepts. https://www.nytimes.com/1987/02/22/magazine/target-qaddafi.html / http://archive.is/18o7s
  • January 12, 1988 | AP - A convicted Palestinian terrorist with links to Syria on Tuesday denied any ties to the captured West German woman authorities say placed a bomb in the La Belle discotheque on his orders. Officials also said it was too soon to say whether Libya was behind the April 5, 1986 nightclub bombing in West Berlin. - The denial by Ahmed Nawaf Hasi, read by his attorney, came as West Berlin officials interrogated 27-year-old bombing suspect Christina Gabriele Endrigkeit, who was arrested Monday. - West Germany has mentioned possible Syrian links with Arab terrorist attacks in West Berlin, but has not supported the U.S. contention of Libyan involvement in the La Belle bombing. Although Mrs. Endrigkeit’s interrogation was for the moment focusing on her alleged links with Hasi, it would also explore a possible Libyan connection since Hasi is known to have spent time in Libya, said West Berlin Justice Department spokesman Volker Kaehne. https://apnews.com/96c0b245b82f7a0c11ecff3375600cdb / https://archive.is/S6WH3
  • Jan. 12, 1988 | Times of London - George Shultz, the US Secretary of State, insisted yesterday that Libya was directly involved in the West Berlin discotheque bombing which killed two US servicemen in 1986, despite evidence that another country was involved. - He spoke after West German authorities said that Frau Christine Endrigkeit, aged 27, arrested in Lübeck early yesterday on suspicion of having planted the bomb in April, 1986, had contacts with Palestinians linked to Syria. Judicial authorities in West Berlin said that Frau Endrigkeit was a friend of a Jordanian , Ahmed Hasi, who made an earlier bomb attack in West Berlin with explosives supplied by the Syrian Embassy in East Berlin. Hasi is a brother of Nezar Hindawi, jailed for 45 years by a London court in 1986 for attempting to blow up an Israeli airliner. Page Number 7 GALE|IF0503151512
  • 12/22/88 | AP via NYT, cited in fair.org - A recent Associated Press dispatch disclosed that West Berlin authorities have ended their investigation of the La Belle disco bombing. The 5-paragraph version of the AP dispatch that ran in the New York Times (12/22/88) neglected to mention that West German officials found no proof of a Libyan connection. https://fair.org/extra/u-s-media-on-a-terrorist-tirade / https://archive.is/lQQef

also cited around the web, regarding this paper: Some Unknown US History: "Sixty US officers at the U.S. Army's School for Advanced Military Studies made a serious charge against the Israelis in their 68-page paper. Intelligence insiders believed that Israel's Mossad had concocted the phony "evidence" to "prove" Libyan responsibility. West Berlin police director Manfred Ganschow, who took charge of the investigation, cleared the Libyans, saying, "This is a highly political case. Some of the evidence cited in Washington may not be evidence at all, merely assumptions supplied for political reasons." US intelligence interests actively built a selective politically-motivated case against suspects without objective material proof; while ignoring and protecting a group of suspects with documented connections to western secret services." http://www.afrocubaweb.com/News/libyanews.htm / http://archive.is/v5rBm / http://archive.today/2020.02.26-213607/http://aldeilis.net/english/us-army-officers-say-mossad-may-blame-arabs / http://archive.today/2017.05.24-080107/http://americanfreepress.net/web-exclusive-israels-use-of-false-flags-in-global-terrorism/

  • August 10, 2004 | AP - Libya agreed Tuesday to pay $35 million in compensation for victims of a 1986 bombing in Berlin that killed two U.S. servicemen and a Turkish woman and injured 229 others, the Libyan ambassador to Germany said. The deal applies to Germans who were wounded in the April 5, 1986 attack on the LaBelle disco and the family of the slain Turkish woman, but not the families of two Americans, Ambassador Said Abdulaati told The Associated Press. It is the latest step in an effort by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi to end his country’s pariah status, following agreements to settle the Pan Am and UTA airliner bombing cases. - The latest talks were held at a secret location in Berlin. https://apnews.com/64dff4694a9b8dd60d262ac186d265af / https://archive.is/1M4SU
