Kari Lake Halperin is a former television news anchor, who ran for the seat as governor of Arizona in 2022. Lake says the election was manipulated in favor of her opponent.[1] She also thinks that the US election of 2020 was manipulated in favor of Biden.[2] She is a current Senate candidate in Arizona for the 2024 election.

She was approached by Arizonas GOP chair Jeff DeWit in March 2023 [3] and asked to drop out of politics for two years or so, since there are: "very powerful people who want to keep you out, they really want someone different." and that "So the ask I got today from back east was: "Is there any companies out there or something that could just put her on the payroll to keep her out?".[4][5] He resigned as per her request shortly after the publication of the audio recordings.[6]
At one point, Kari suggested that DeWit go public about the attempted bribe. DeWit immediately rejected the idea, ominously joking, "Then I turn my key in my car and — boom! I like my car."[7]
